Fastly Outage Knocks Major Websites Offline

On 8 June 2021, content delivery network Fastly suffered a global outage which took down numerous major websites including CNN , the New York Times , and Reddit .

According to Kentik data, we observed this global outage beginning at 9:49 UTC (5:49am ET). At 9:58 UTC, Fastly posted on their status page, “Investigating - We’re currently investigating potential impact to performance with our CDN services.”

We observed a 75% drop in traffic volume coming from Fastly before traffic began returning at 10:39 UTC.
