Preventative Maintenance Takes Down Internet in Greenland

Talk about a glacial ping rate
December 10, 2024
The Internet in Greenland was down for maintenance earlier today.

Internet service to the country of Greenland was down for almost three hours starting at 04:10 UTC (2:10am) when Tusass (formerly Tele Greenland, AS8818) was temporarily disconnected from the global internet.

The cause of the outage was a combination of the effects of preventative maintenance on the Tusass’s link to Canada and a fault on the connection to Denmark. The outage was also visible on the IODA outage tool.

According to a LinkedIn post, Tusass explained, “Fortunately, the fault on the connection to Denmark occurred on land, and therefore easy to repair.”
